My Creative Writing class looks like it has the potential to be an interesting experience. Being the generic English department exercise in futility, it is comprised primarily of hippies, punks, bow-heads and football players.

The focus of the class is the technical aspects of the creative writing process, so to maintain the emotional balance we will begin each week with a Show and Tell of emotion-based literary/musical/artistic influences as presented by students.

The first week's assignment is a 300-500 word short story introduction written in the style of: 'The first time <person> heard <song by artist>, <person> was <action> in <place>.'

But the most enlightening thing of all is that en masse, the first string of the Hawkeye football offensive line twitters and chirps like a bunch of giggly, nine year-old school girls. I guess that's not entirely out of line for a class that has Show and Tell, but I can't help wonder if Coach Ferentz has to put up with that crap.
